At 7:02 a.m. on January 11, 2022, SW Polk Fire District was dispatched to a vehicle vs. log truck crash on Hwy 22 at milepost 9. Upon arrival, crews found that a westbound vehicle had struck an eastbound log truck in a head-on collision. A single patient was extricated within 9 minutes of crews arriving on scene and was transported to Salem Hospital, where they were later pronounced deceased. Hwy 22 was closed until approximately 2:00 p.m. for an investigation. Mutual aid was provided by Dallas Fire & EMS and Polk County Fire District No.1. Additional response agencies included Oregon State Police, Polk County Sheriff, and ODOT.
